October 2007
Dear Christopher,

Fall arrived and it seemed like everyone we know went into hyperdrive. When our lives get busier, sometimes communication falters. It happens to everyone, even in a business devoted to innovative communication strategies. It's crucial to remind ourselves to keep all lines open.

GrafiQa Wins Otsego Chamber's Breakthrough Award
award
GrafiQa Creative Services has been named the winner of the 2007 Breakthrough Business Award by the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce. The award, sponsored by James Jordan Associates Architects, celebrates innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit. The Chamber presented the award Thursday, Oct. 11, at the awards banquet which was held at the Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown, N.Y.

"We are incredibly honored to be recognized in this way by the Chamber," said Christopher Quereau, the 30-year-old creative director who opened GrafiQa in 2002. "The success we've had is a testament to our conviction that Central New York is a place where creativity and innovation are respected and celebrated."

Web Sites We Love (if we do say so ourselves)
Matco
Matco Electric
Specializing in large, industrial jobs for clients such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Tioga Downs and numerous healthcare facilities, Matco needed a site that showcased the company's expertise and would serve as an alluring resource for potential clients. GrafiQa designed a site that reflects Matco Electric's high level of service. We gave them a fresh, modern design, and a user-friendly navigation, as well as an online portfolio.

We also trained representatives from the company on the software they can use to easily update the site themselves whenever they need to, without incurring extra technical costs or delays.

Riveroodgifts.comRiverwood Gifts
Shoppers who love browsing through Riverwood Gifts on Cooperstown's Main Street can now visit the store's new Web site, which was designed by GrafiQa. The site, designed to capture and communicate the personality of the store and its owner, Rick Gibbons, features original photography, Flash animation and retail commerce capabilities.

RiverwoodLandfill Service Corporation
Landfill Service Corporation, based in Binghamton, offers a unique product: A spray-on covering system for landfills that reduces volume, eliminates odor and prolongs the life of a landfill. It's also easier and safer for workers to use than other methods, such as tarping. GrafiQa created a site that uses streaming video to communicate the benefits of the product, and show it in use.

beavermtn.comBeaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes
Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes needed a Web site that reflected the company's status as one of the premier builders of log homes in the Northeast. People come from hundreds of miles away to visit the company's amazing workshop, where entire log homes are built and dry-stacked before being transported, component-by-component, to the building site.

GrafiQa built a Web site that comes as close as possible to giving potential clients a hands-on tour of a log home. We also optimized the site so that potential clients earching the Internet for log home builders will be funnelled to Beaver Mountain's site.

Tips for Writing a Press Release
and why you should care

One of our clients, Beaver Mountain Log & Cedar Homes, was hosting an open house and wanted a low-cost, effective way of promoting it.

The solution was clear: Press Release.

Our content developer, Elizabeth Buchinger,  compiled a contact list of 50 media professionals within 100 miles, then worked with the client to hone the message they wanted to convey.

Several media outlets picked up the release and ran information about the event, which was quite well attended, according to the organizer, Kim Clark Prochazka.

But the best return was that a crew from an area TV station came the day before the event, interviewed the owners and produced a piece about the business (which you can see here).

"It was a great piece. Much more in depth than I thought they were going to be," Kim said.

A well-crafted press release can put your name in the media, introduce you to key players in your industry's trade publications and - best of all - act as free advertising.
